Jeremy Mort
Growing up surrounded by small businesses and entrepreneurs, I developed an early appreciation for what it takes to build something successful. My family was full of business owners—my uncle and aunt ran a thriving asphalt and road dust control company, my uncle and father owned a cedar shingle mill, and my sister and cousins built careers in construction, excavation, and home building. I saw firsthand what good business looked like and the relentless effort required to sustain it.
My journey into the working world started as a dishwasher in a family-owned restaurant, where I learned the importance of teamwork, clearly defined roles, and effective communication. These early experiences shaped my approach to leadership and business strategy.
A former college student-athlete and coach, I understand the discipline, perseverance, and strategic thinking required to achieve long-term success. That mindset carried over into my professional career, where I’ve spent the past 25 years as a business owner, entrepreneur, and consultant—guiding individuals and organizations through start-up, growth, and exit strategies.
As a serial entrepreneur, I’ve developed product concepts, worked with product developers and patent attorneys, launched multiple businesses, and successfully acquired companies. I’ve also served as a consultant and capital strategist, helping pre- and post-revenue startups navigate fundraising and growth. My consulting work extends beyond U.S. borders, including working with a nonprofit focused on economic development in the Central African Republic.
Beyond business, I’m a dedicated community builder. I’ve served on nonprofit boards such as Communities in Schools Peninsula, chaired economic development committees with local Chambers of Commerce, and contributed to school district initiatives focused on skilled trades, apprenticeships, and career readiness. I’ve also played a key role in parks department steering committees, helping shape community projects.
At my core, I am passionate about moving people, projects, and visions forward. I coach and collaborate with business owners to achieve success in both life and business—helping them navigate challenges, maximize opportunities, and create sustainable growth.
Married for 24 years and raising three incredible children, I understand the balance between professional ambition and personal fulfillment. My unique perspective on business and life will provide you with the guidance needed to build not only a thriving company but a meaningful and successful future.
Mercedes Blackwood
Mercedes is a seasoned Project Manager and Public Affairs Consultant with a strong passion for solving complex problems. Specializing in strategic planning, program management, and the implementation and evaluation of diverse initiatives, she leverages her background in international affairs, U.S. campaign management, nonprofit organization development, and civil society enhancement to drive impactful change.
Mercedes has accumulated over a decade of experience in strategy and operations, earning the nickname 'the Swiss Army Knife' for her versatile skill set that covers various aspects of project management. Her extensive career in International Relations spans over 23 countries. Originally from Idaho, she is a proud graduate of the University of Idaho with a degree in Political Science. Currently based in Gig Harbor, Washington, she shares her life with her husband, an electrical engineer and the world’s best dog, Sammy.

More than just a name…
Tiderunner Consulting Co. is more than just a name—it’s a tribute to my mentor, Erin, and the impact she had on my life. Erin’s grandfather, with whom she was very close, founded Tiderunner Boats in 1967—a Pacific Northwest company renowned for its durability and craftsmanship. At my lowest point, both personally and professionally, I was working from a coffee shop when a mutual friend introduced me to Erin, sparking a friendship that would change my life. Expecting nothing in return—except honesty and hard work—she guided me back to my best self, which, in turn, helped my business thrive.
Her guidance and friendship were gifts from God, and I am truly blessed to know her and her family. Naming my company Tiderunner is not only a way to honor Erin’s selflessness and generosity, but it also reflects the entrepreneurial journey itself. Business, like the tide, rises and falls. Success isn’t about avoiding the waves—it’s about learning to ride them. Just like the boats Erin’s grandfather built over 40 years ago, which are still cutting through the water today, Tiderunner Consulting is about resilience, adaptability, and thriving in any condition.
